FORT WORTH _ Declan O’Shea sent an early message to the rest of the Lone Star Conference with a blinder of a goal in the 19th minute on Saturday.
O’Shea and fellow midfielder Jamie Lovegrove paced the Vaqueros to a 3-0 victory against Tyler FC (0-2) in the NPSL Lone Star Conference opener at Farrington Field. From 29 yards out, O’Shea one-timed a throw-in for a cracker of a shot inside the right post to open the 2019 season in style.
The Vaqueros (1-0, 3 points) added to the first half lead when O’Shea set up Lovegrove for a 33rd minute goal and the 2-0 lead.
“Declan and Jamie provided the scoring touches tonight,” Vaqueros general manager Tobias Xavier Lopez said. “However, man-for-man through the roster everyone contributed to a team-wide effort that got our 2019 season off to a perfect start.”
Lovegrove and Alan Rovira set up Bobby Edet for the second half touch-in for the final 3-0 margin.
The Vaqueros return to action Saturday on the road against Chisholm Trail Clasico rivals, the Denton Diablos before playing the second leg in Fort Worth on June 1.
“We head north to face the Diablos next Saturday in what will be an amazing new rivalry,” Lopez said. “We will have to continue working this week to be ready for what we know will be a stiff test amongst some familiar faces now suiting up the Diablos.”
