The Vaqueros began the second half of Lone Star Conference play with a hard-earned road point for the Boys in Blue on Saturday as the Vaqueros tied Midland-Odessa Sockers 2-2 in West Texas.
VFC fell behind 2-0 in the first 10 minutes but scrapped back to a 2-2 scoreline at the half.
Attacking midfielder Kalle Sone returned from injury to put his stamp on the offense. “Kalle” assisted on the first goal from VcMor Eligwe. Kalle leveled the scoring off a stellar assist from captain/centerback Mike Jones.
“The boys showed great poise and character to come back from an early two goal deficit,” Vaqueros coach Nick Stavrou said. “They all played their part and had to dig deep to repel a determined and talented Midland team.”
Despite a small travel squad and the heat, Fort Worth held on to gain the road draw.
The 2-2 tie leaves Fort Worth (4-1-1, 13 points) in sole possession of 2nd place in the Lone Star Conference standings.
Fort Worth returns to action on June 16 when Katy 1895 heads to Farrington Field for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
