Fort Worth Vaqueros Distributing Gift Cards to Local Businesses
Business in Fort Worth — and pretty much anywhere — isn’t booming in a turbulent market crippled by the coronavirus crisis.
But Michael Hitchcock, owner of the Fort Worth Vaqueros, and his crew are doing their part to encourage the community to continue supporting shops.
Every day, the city’s only minor league sports team is purchasing gift cards in the ballpark of $25 to distribute in their Kick COVID-19 Daily Giveaways through social media. Credits to locally owned breweries, bars, restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops, and more are featured in the Vaqueros’ effort to support local business.
Hitchcock calls it a return of “incredible support” his club has received since the Vaqueros were founded in 2014.
“It’s small, but we think important, gesture to support our local businesses, to promote local businesses while giving back to the Vaqueros family during these challenging times,” Hitchcock says.
To boot, the giveaways come with a perhaps much-needed dose of positivity, such as Tuesday’s giveaway for a gift card to Vaquero Coffee. “To qualify, make us all laugh with your best joke,” The Vaqueros management team wrote in a Facebook post.
The club’s also actively encouraging social distancing to combat COVID-19 spread, but promises to be back in preparation for their seventh National Premier Soccer League season to defend their Lone Star Conference Championship.
